The TEC Partnership are celebrating a milestone this month, as they mark a decade of validating Higher Education (HE) qualifications within Northern Lincolnshire.
The group, which includes the University Centre Grimsby (UCG) within our region, have had degree awarding powers since the 1st August 2013. Initially exclusively offering foundation degrees, but in 2020 these were upgraded to bachelor’s degree awarding powers.
Having degree awarding powers places the Partnership in a unique position of being able to work quickly with employers to develop HE programmes that develop graduates with strong graduate attributes, while meeting employer needs.
Nathan Michael, Group Vice Principal for Curriculum, Quality and Standards said
Originally granted the powers in 2013 by the Privy Council, in 2021 the Office of Students under the Higher Education Research Act were able to clear the Partnership to expand to Bachelor’s degrees.
Since 2013, the Partnership has been validating degree programmes specifically for Grimsby, meeting the needs of regional and national employers, as well as individuals looking to return to education, upskill or retrain. Higher Education opens doors to our students, and the college validating its own degrees has allowed us to meet the needs of our students more quickly.
Mathew Tuck, Group Academic Registrar said
The TEC Partnership is one of England’s largest providers of further and higher education, with a rich history of developing innovative training and education solutions for the community. The Partnership includes the Grimsby Institute, the University Centre Grimsby, Skegness TEC, The Academy Grimsby and Modal Training. With locations outside of our region including East Riding College and Scarborough TEC.
The UCG offer a range of courses including the FdEd Early Childhood Studies, FdA Children, Young People and Families, BA (Hons) Integrative Counselling, Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) Health Care Professions Support for England, BA (Hons) Digital Film Production and BA (Hons) Professional and Creative Writing.
Applications are open for September 2023 entry still, with a bespoke open event due to be held on the 17th and 18th August 9am to 4pm for anyone interested in applying, gaining some careers advice and guidance or seeing the facilities for themselves.
Our students benefit from access to great facilities, industry links and excellent teaching staff. Our recent National Student Survey results demonstrate the positive learning experiences we give our students. Many of our students have returned to education after a break, or would prefer to study locally to avoid the added financial burden of leaving the region to live in another town or city to study.
