We’re celebrating National Apprenticeship Week! As a dedicated provider of apprenticeships, we wanted to share the journey of one of our own apprentices and how they have helped to contribute to our vision and mission.
Continuous learning is key to career growth in today’s fast-paced work environment. For Robert Parr, enrolling in a Payroll Assistant Apprenticeship was the stepping stone to developing his skills and excelling in his role. He was keen to learn more about the profession, and made use of our own internal apprenticeship programme to enhance his abilities.
Robert enrolled in the Payroll Assistant Apprenticeship to improve his skills and perform his job more effectively. He recognised that formal training would help him understand payroll processes more thoroughly and allow him to contribute more efficiently.
According to Robert, one of the most rewarding aspects of his apprenticeship has been the ability to apply classroom knowledge to real-world tasks directly. Robert’s skills and confidence have grown significantly by completing assignments and engaging in practical exercises.
A significant factor in Robert’s success has been the structured support he received throughout his apprenticeship. Monthly one-on-one sessions with his tutor provided him with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out his role effectively.
Additionally, assignments between these sessions allowed him to practice and reinforce key concepts, ensuring he built a strong foundation in payroll management.
Robert’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. Matthew Hennesey, our Payroll and Pension Manager, shared:
“Robert started his payroll apprenticeship in October and is already involved in key processes within the team, assisting with adding new starters onto the payroll and picking up independent responsibilities.
“Fresh out of college, he provides a new and unique perspective on any potential changes or improvements.
“Robert has assisted with a recent major project that involved extensive manual processing, which allowed us to deliver on time. As he integrates into the business, he has also been able to provide support to another team with administration tasks.
“I look forward to Rob’s journey as he learns more about payroll and TEC Partnership”.
Reflecting on his experience, Robert encourages others to consider this apprenticeship, stating,
“Do it! I was apprehensive at first, but it’s a great way into employment and a potential career.”
His journey underscores the benefits of learning through apprenticeships, especially for those seeking practical work experience.
The Payroll Assistant Apprenticeship has equipped Robert with the skills and confidence to advance in his career. With his strengthened expertise and hands-on experience, he is now well-positioned to explore further opportunities in payroll and finance.
Robert’s story is a testament to the power of apprenticeships in fostering career development and professional growth. If you’re considering a career in payroll or looking to enhance your skill set, an apprenticeship might just be the perfect path for you.
