Grimsby Institute is excited to welcome exchange students as part of the Erasmus+ programme from Bonn and Mettmann in Germany. Our campus is buzzing again, and we are delighted to open our doors to welcome these exchange students after the pandemic.
Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. It has an estimated budget of €26.2 billion. The 2021-2027 programme places a strong focus on social inclusion, the green and digital transitions, and promoting young people’s participation in democratic life.
Our first cohort of students from Bonn arrived at Grimsby Institute today, Monday, 9 May, and we are expecting another group from Mettmann on Monday, 16 May 2022. Grimsby Institute students and staff welcomed the Erasmus+ students and look forward to spending a few weeks together to learn and grow. This fantastic programme enables students and staff to take on live projects and get hands-on work experience in their field, whilst travelling abroad to soak up the culture.
Our Vice Principal, Emma Forest-Leigh commented, “We are absolutely delighted to be resuming our international exchange work following the pandemic. This week we are joined by students from Bonn in Germany, as part of an ongoing Erasmus project with a strong partner who I have worked with for over 15 years now. While our guests are here, they will spend three weeks fully immersed in our curriculum, acquiring new technical skills. Students will be paired with Grimsby classmates, of whom some will then have the opportunity to gain fully funded travel opportunities to Germany in the new academic year thanks to secured funding. These kinds of projects not only assist students to develop new technical skills but also to develop confidence, independence, broaden their horizons and provide life changing experiences that go on to assist them in their next steps into further study or employment. After a period of lockdown, this is just what we need and at the Grimsby Institute, as multinational award winners for our international work, we are delighted to be providing these opportunities for our students and staff.”
