About this apprenticeship

They work in a range of settings, including residential and nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, clinical environments and private homes. Job roles include senior care workers, care supervisors, community support workers and personal assistants, with opportunities to specialise in areas such as dementia, mental health, learning disabilities, homecare and end-of-life care.

This Level 3 apprenticeship is wholly work based and delivered through independent study and workplace visits by a Vocational Trainer Coach from the Grimsby Institute, Nuns Corner, Grimsby, DN34 5BQ.

What you will learn

  • Understand job roles, responsibilities and professional boundaries within the care team
  • Follow statutory standards, codes of practice, organisational policies and duty of care
  • Develop, implement, monitor and review person-centred care plans based on individual needs and preferences
  • Lead and support colleagues to comply with regulations, policies and high standards of care
  • Promote dignity, equality, diversity, inclusion and respect for human rights
  • Communicate effectively using appropriate methods while overcoming communication barriers
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality of information
  • Recognise, report and respond to abuse, safeguarding concerns, complaints and unsafe practices
  • Understand whistleblowing procedures and resolve conflicts between an individual’s rights and safety
  • Promote health, wellbeing, infection prevention, fire safety, risk management and safe working practices
  • Respond appropriately to accidents, emergencies, hazardous substances and changes in an individual’s health
  • Support individuals to make informed choices, give consent and actively participate in their care
  • Guide, mentor, supervise and develop colleagues while promoting teamwork and professional relationships
  • Work collaboratively with families, professionals and external organisations to improve care outcomes
  • Commit to continuous professional development through reflective practice, research, supervision, feedback, recruitment support and lifelong learning.

What next?

Apprentices who complete this programme will become fully-qualified and experienced Lead Adult Care Workers. 94% of apprentices remain in employment after completing their training.
