About this course

About this apprenticeship

The Installation and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship prepares individuals to work across the industrial, commercial and residential construction, engineering and power sectors, installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems in a wide range of environments, including communal areas. Apprentices develop the skills to carry out installation, testing, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of low voltage electrical and electronic equipment (up to 1000 V AC or 1500 V DC), as well as working on automated production systems and emerging low-carbon technologies. The role involves applying engineering knowledge to tasks such as interpreting drawings, selecting materials, contributing to system design and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment including switchboards, motors, cables, lighting, heating and renewable energy systems. Electricians may work both indoors and outdoors, independently or as part of a team, always prioritising safety and compliance with regulations such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, Electricity at Work Regulations and BS 7671.

This apprenticeship runs on a college day-release model. Apprentices will attend college for one day each week (term-time only), to gain valuable underpinning knowledge.
