The Grimsby Institute is pleased to announce the winner of the first Seafood Chef of the Year Junior 2023 is Brooke Harniess from Cleethorpes Academy.
Brooke was absolutely delighted to hear her healthy fish and chips had secured her first place in the competition, she said:
“I’m so shocked that I’ve won. I’ve had a great day, cooking in a professional kitchen in-front of a professional chef made me a bit nervous, but I’ve really enjoyed it.”
Competitors from both Cleethorpes Academy and Humberston Academy went head-to-head in the kitchen to take the coveted title and amazing prices, which included a £150 voucher for Healing Manor from competition judge Steven Bennett of Healing Manor and a £100 Amazon voucher.
Steven has spent almost 30 years in the professional kitchen and is Chef Patron at Healing Manor Hotel and award-winning 2 Rosette dining pub The Pig and Whistle. Steven has a passion for working to bridge the gap between education and industry, paving the way for a career in the hospitality and tourism industry and inspiring the next generation of chefs.
He said: I’m extremely passionate about competitions like this. We have such a skills shortage in the industry regarding young chefs coming through. We need to get young people cooking in the kitchen both at home and at school.”
