Grimsby Institute hairdressing student Siobhan Tate was awarded 1st place at the North East regional heat of the WorldSkills UK hairdressing competition category, held at the Grimsby Institute, part of the TEC Partnership, for the first time.
Heats have been taking place across the country, and on Tuesday, 20th June, Siobhan competed against 30 other talented hairdressing students to take the title. The brief for her winning creations saw Siobhan create a stunning hair-up catwalk look and pixie-inspired cut and colour.
On learning of her win, Siobhan said:
I’m a bit shocked that I’ve won. I worked hard preparing for the competition and I thought I had done well, but when I saw the standard in the room, I wasn’t sure. I would like to thank my tutors they have been so supportive throughout my course and the competition.
Jackie Marshall, Grimsby Institute Skills Employability Trainer, has been working with the WorldSkills team to bring the competition to the region and commented: “We wanted to bring the WorldSkills hairdressing competition to the region for such a long time. It’s a great opportunity to showcase the college and our students.
We are so proud of Siobhan. She started preparation for the competition back in the spring and has worked tirelessly to achieve 1st place today. She has a very bright future ahead of her.
