Outstanding Academy Grimsby celebrates student success

The Academy Grimsby (TAG) is today celebrating after its unique combination of GCSE exams and work-related pathways leads to student success.

The Ofsted outstanding academy, which opened in 2014, saw the majority of students achieve the benchmark pass grade in both GCSE maths and English.

The Academy Grimsby (TAG) is today celebrating after its unique combination of GCSE exams and work-related pathways leads to student success.

The Ofsted outstanding academy, which opened in 2014, saw the majority of students achieve the benchmark pass grade in both GCSE maths and English.

Provisional figures show that of the candidates that took English and maths exams, those achieving top grades was higher than in 2017, with 71% achieving a pass in English.

TAG offers a unique career-orientated curriculum featuring work-related BTEC qualifications, which achieved a 100% pass rate.

74% of those students achieved a merit grade or higher, while 32% achieved distinction or higher.

The BTEC pathway, combined with the national curriculum, aims to help prepare TAG students for further education and future careers.

Paul Thundercliffe, Head Teacher at TAG, said:

Once more I am extremely proud of the success that the students have had. We are not a one-size-fits-all establishment and so I am equally pleased to see a distinct correlation between our academic and vocational qualifications. I wish the Class of 2018 every best wish for the future.

Debra Gray, Principal at the Grimsby Institute, said:

TAG is a vocational academy that prepares students for their next steps to College, apprenticeships and jobs in key industries. We are able to offer a very different curriculum which combines GCSE’s with high level technical and professional qualifications supported by industry. The students are a credit to their parents, carers and TAG and we wish them every success in the next stage of their education or career.
