About this course

About this apprenticeship

Social workers work in partnership with adults, children and carers across a range of settings, helping people to navigate complex situations and achieve positive change. Central to the profession is a commitment to protecting human rights, promoting social justice, and ensuring that people’s voices are heard in decision making.

The Social Work Apprenticeship provides apprentices with the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours needed to work effectively within statutory and legislative frameworks. Apprentices learn how to assess, plan, implement and evaluate support in complex situations while developing professional judgement, critical reflection and ethical practice. They also gain experience of working collaboratively with individuals, communities and a wide range of professionals and agencies.

Social workers are employed across local authorities, the NHS, charities, voluntary organisations and private providers, with opportunities to specialise in areas such as children’s services, adult social care, mental health, learning disabilities, substance misuse and hospital-based practice. Throughout the apprenticeship, apprentices develop a compassionate, anti-racist and anti-oppressive approach to practice, placing the needs, rights and wellbeing of individuals at the centre of their work.

This apprenticeship has an integrated BA (Hons)Social Work, which is delivered on a college day-release model once each week.
