About this course

About this apprenticeship

They often work shifts, including nights, either independently or as part of a team. They work with families, healthcare professionals, social workers and other agencies while reporting to supervisors.

Their responsibilities include following company policies, maintaining accurate records, promoting independence and complying with health and safety, safeguarding, environmental regulations and PPE requirements to deliver safe, high-quality care.

This Level 2 apprenticeship is wholly work based and delivered through independent study and workplace visits by a Vocational Trainer Coach from the Grimsby Institute, Nuns Corner, Grimsby, DN34 5BQ.

What you will learn

  • Follow national standards, organisational policies, procedures and codes of conduct
  • Comply with health and safety, safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, human rights, duty of care and duty of candour requirements
  • Recognise and respond to signs of abuse, neglect and safeguarding concerns, reporting them appropriately
  • Deliver person-centred, co-produced care that promotes health, wellbeing, dignity, independence and informed choice
  • Support positive risk-taking, contribute to risk assessments and manage conflict using proactive approaches
  • Understand individuals’ cognitive, physical, mental health, wellbeing and decision-making capacity, adapting care as needs change
  • Recognise, monitor, record and report changes in an individual’s physical or mental condition
  • Communicate effectively using verbal, written, non-verbal and digital methods tailored to individual needs
  • Maintain accurate, secure records while protecting confidential information and data
  • Use digital technologies and care systems to improve communication and service delivery
  • Work sustainably by using resources efficiently and disposing of waste safely
  • Commit to continuous professional development, lifelong learning, supervision, feedback and personal development planning
  • Develop personal resilience and access support to maintain wellbeing
  • Support and monitor the safe administration of medicines within the limits of the role
  • Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, staying organised, taking responsibility and continuously improving performance.

What next?

On completion of this programme, apprentices will be fully qualified and experienced Adult Care Workers. Allowing progression onto Level 3 apprenticeships such as Lead Adult Care Worker.
