Congratulations to GCSE learners at The Academy Grimsby

Congratulations to our 235 learners at The Academy Grimsby, who picked up their GCSE results this morning. This year, we’re celebrating improving on last year’s overall high grade results by almost 18% and achieving particularly good results in Maths and English, with a number of high achievers now preparing to take their next step into further education.

Despite picking up their GCSE results under unusual circumstances today, learners were able to enjoy socially distanced celebrations with friends and family after opening their results.

Amelia Banks achieved two nines, three eights and one six. She said: “I was home schooled before coming to The Academy Grimsby, so wanted to study for my GCSEs in smaller class sizes where I wouldn’t feel too overwhelmed.

“The Academy Grimsby was perfect and I’d recommend anyone in a similar situation to me to come here. Once I’d settled in, I really enjoyed my time here and am now moving on to Career 6 to study sociology, psychology and English Literature. I want to be a teacher.”

Megan Copley took the health and care pathway and collected three eights, one seven and two sixes today. She also thrived in The Academy Grimsby’s smaller class sizes. She said: “I was at a big school before coming here and in that environment, you just get lost. At The Academy Grimsby, I received more one-to-one support. I also really enjoyed the freedom we get here.

“I’m really happy with my results and am now going to study crime and society at Career 6.”

Samantha Dent also thrived on the creative freedom at The Academy Grimsby and is particularly pleased to have achieved an eight in art. She said: “I can’t believe it! I was worried about my results, but I’ve got the grades to now study for a Level 3 in Art and Design. I’m so happy!”

High grade pass rates at The Academy Grimsby improved by over 13% in Science, English, Art, History and Geography, with the high grade pass rate in Maths also increasing by almost four per cent compared to last year.

Matthew Holness, deputy principal at The Academy Grimsby said: ““Obviously this year has been quite a strange one for us all. But our learners and staff have responded really well, with home learning and revision going on throughout lockdown. We’ve had a lot of smiling faces and happy tears today and now we’re supporting all our learners on their journey to further education and apprenticeships.”

“BTEC results haven’t been released yet, so we’re now just waiting for these and will be in touch with learners as soon as we get them through.

“I’d like to say a huge congratulations to all of our learners and thank you to our staff for all their hard work this year.”
