Life-changing Care Leaver Scholarships at University Centre Grimsby

The TEC Partnership is proud to offer the Care Leaver Scholarship for 2026/27, a unique opportunity designed to support care leavers in achieving their higher education goals.

This scholarship is open to new students aged 18–25 who have previously been in care, giving them the financial and practical support needed to focus on their studies and build a bright future.

What does the scholarship include?

Each scholarship provides comprehensive support for the duration of the eligible higher education course, up to a maximum of three years (or two years for Foundation Degrees or HNC/HNDs).

The scholarship package includes:

  • Tuition fees covered: Your course fees will be fully covered by the TEC Partnership for the duration of your studies.
  • 52 weeks of accommodation: Enjoy single accommodation in the TEC Partnership’s Halls of Residence, giving you a safe and supportive home while you study.
  • College credits for meals: Receive up to £875 per year to spend on meals on campus.
  • Maintenance and travel allowance: A generous £4,000 per year, paid in weekly BACS instalments to help with living and travel costs.

What are the eligibility criteria?

To apply for the Care Leaver Scholarship, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Care leaver status: You must provide evidence that you have left care within the five years preceding the start of your course, such as a letter from your Social Worker or Local Authority.
  2. Course requirements:
    • You must have applied and been accepted for a higher education course at UCG for 2026/27.
    • Your course must be eligible under the scholarship terms and cannot already attract a training bursary (e.g., NHS bursary).
    • You must be a new entrant to higher education (no existing HE qualifications).
    • You cannot be transferring from another institution or undertaking a postgraduate qualification.
  3. Financial eligibility:
    • You must have applied for and been approved for a Tuition Fee Loan through Student Finance England to prove eligibility for HE funding (this can be cancelled if awarded the scholarship).
    • You must not have your fees paid or part-paid through another sponsorship arrangement.
  4. Residency and study Requirements:
    • You must have home/settled student status in line with Student Finance England.
    • You must be eligible to enrol under Office for Students residency terms for the duration of your course.
    • The scholarship offers accommodation in our own halls of residence for sole occupancy only (if the you have has a dependant or partner, they unfortunately cannot live in our accommodation with you, and we cannot offer an alternative award towards alternative accommodation costs).
  5. References: You will need two references as part of your application.

How can I apply for a scholarship?

To apply for the scholarship, complete the application form and submit it along with the required evidence of care leaver status, references, and UCAS or Student Finance documentation by 30 June 2026.

Please be aware that applications are assessed on a first come, first served basis where there are more eligible applicants than available scholarships. If you are unsuccessful, you may still be able to access support through Student Finance loans and maintenance support.
