£6.8 million Animal Management Centre officially opens at the Grimsby Institute

Today, 23^rd September, Grimsby Institute’s new Animal Management Centre officially opened with a special ceremony attended by local schools, stakeholders, and Dame Andrea Jenkyns, who officially opened the new centre.

The new circular building, located on the western end of the campus, houses modern teaching spaces and an independent veterinary practice with overnight accommodation. Thoughtfully designed with the wellbeing of animals in mind, the centre showcases outside enclosures, an aviary, dog grooming and crèche facilities, and a dedicated dog-walking space.

Cheryl Eade, Campus Principal, said:

“We’re delighted to open this modern, state-of-the-art facility for the college’s diverse animal collection as well as its commercial kennels and dog grooming business. 

“The Animal Management Centre’s opening will provide a seamless integration of further and higher education opportunities in animal care and welfare for the region and its workforce.”

Uniquely for a further education college, the Animal Management Centre will also incorporate a fully operational, commercial veterinary practice, Wolds Vets, offering unparalleled opportunities for Grimsby Institute students.

Samantha Goodwin, General Manager of Wolds Vets, said:

“We’re delighted to have a new building. It’s great to give back to the veterinary nursing profession. Having the opportunity to study locally is amazing for our community.”

Officially opening the centre in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dame Andrea Jenkyns, the first Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, shared:

“It’s a great honour to be here. I was a student here at the college over 30 years ago, and it’s brilliant to see the investment in our area. I want to thank everyone involved who is committed to making this a success.”

Developed in partnership with Topcon Building Limited and supported by co-funding from the Office for Students and the Department for Education, the centre now welcomes students for further and higher education courses.
