BSc (Hons) Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) Top Up (recruiting for Sept 2025)

About This Course

This programme will enable you to pursue professional careers in electrical & electronic engineering. BSc (Hons) Engineering Top-Up (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) will equip students with analytical skills to systematically employ engineering principles and produce original analysis of solutions using software applications (specific to an Electrical and Electronic Engineering context). You will conduct independent research and manage projects using the latest technologies, ultimately preparing you for postgraduate study and/or employment in your respective engineering discipline.

The ‘Top-Up’ degree is validated by the TEC Partnership and enables current and previous Higher National Diploma (HND) engineering students to progress to Level 6 studies in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University Centre Grimsby.

Entry Requirements

Standard offer:
Students enrolling onto the BSc (Hons) Top-up in either Mechanical or Electrical & Electronic
Engineering must have achieved on the Higher National Diploma in the respective discipline or on a similar qualification such as a Foundation Degree with appropriate relevance to Engineering,
Mathematics and/or science. An entry test could be used to assess the learners to identify any gaps in fundamental prerequisite knowledge to ensure that the student is able to undertake the Level 6 Programme to a sufficient standard.

What You Will Learn

Level 6 (Honours Stage)

The programme is made up of a range of different modules:

Core Modules:

  • Embedded Systems
  • Engineering Management
  • Engineering Project/Dissertation
  • Electrical Machines and Power Systems


Optional Modules (choose one):

  • Renewable Energy Engineering and Technology
  • Communication Engineering

Learning & Teaching Methods

The assessment approach is designed to ensure the breadth and depth of your knowledge and understanding will be assessed. The methods used will be a combination of written, visual and spoken forms associated with assessments, such as: assignments/essays, exams, reports, presentations, and posters, as these will allow primary and secondary research to be applied. The visual assessments will use the poster method, whereas oral assessments will use either the presentation or demonstration method.

This programme ultimately prepares students for post-graduate study with partner Institutions and/or a career or employment in the respective Engineering discipline. Aspirations of students are also boosted by significant growth of engineering job vacancies, both locally and nationally which is also echoed by recent data from the Labour Market Intelligence (LMI).
