About This Course

This programme draws on a range of local, national and international perspectives to give you a holistic view of health & social care. BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care (Top Up) is the equivalent to the final year of an undergraduate degree. This programme aims to provide a natural progression for students who may have completed a related foundation degree or equivalent Level 5 qualification (e.g. HND), or for qualified nurses wishing to gain graduate status. The top-up degrees enable students to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of a particular topic.

The BSc Health & Social Care (Top Up) provides students with the opportunity to graduate with an honour's degree. The course draws on a range of local, national, and international perspectives and theory. The teaching and learning on this course will reflect the real world of health and social care; in some modules, students will use real world experience to inform ideas; in others, simulated case studies are used so that the students can apply theoretical knowledge and statistics to them.

Entry Requirements

The successful candidate must have at least 240 CATS (Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme) points gained through study at Levels 4 and 5 in a relevant field. The average grade at Level 5 must be 50% or above – additional entry requirements include DBS and interview.

Learning & Teaching Methods

A range of assessment methods are used on this course. The diversity of assessment methods is a key component of student learning and academic progression, and this includes the use of written assignments, reports, oral assessments, portfolio, set exercises and a dissertation.

Programme Benefits

The benefit of this program is that it will enable students to gain a full honour’s degree classification whilst further enhancing their subject knowledge, skills and understanding allowing for students to progress onto post graduate study or change direction in their current career. As students will hone their analytical, problem solving and research skills this will enhance employability, as these are the key competences that many employers value. The BSc Health and Social Care is industry specific, and will help students develop the key skills needed that will allow them to advance in the field.The program can be studied as a one-year full-time course or over two years as a part-time course.

The BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Top Up will significantly enhance student’s employability in the sector and in other areas of work. In this course you will learn everything you need to know to work in roles within a diverse sector that includes working with young people, mental health and drug and alcohol support, health promotion, family support services, care homes. You will also be able to work for the NHS and for various charities and other public, private, and voluntary health agencies.Students can also go on to further study at master’s degree level in a variety of relevant areas such as social work, dementia, mental health, health management, and MSc in nursing. There are also opportunities at Grimsby University Centre to complete postgraduate study in teaching in the post compulsory sector in Grimsby.
