About This Course
There is a range of financial support available to study eligible undergraduate and postgraduate nursing, midwifery and many allied health professions degrees, so there has never been a better time to look into training in this sector. This diploma is an intensive one-year programme aimed exclusively at adults and is designed to prepare you for studies at University. With this course, you will learn the essential scientific concepts relating to the function of the human mind and body, as well as core principles of care, communication and health education.Do not worry if you have been out of education for a while, or never went to college, the course is underpinned with study skills throughout to ensure you develop these key skills in academic writing, research and digital literacy.
To study on this programme, you need a level 2 qualification in English and Maths, and be aged over 19.NB. For most health science professions degrees, you must have GCSE English (some universities accept Functional Skills Level 2) and a minimum of Level 2 Maths (FS or GCSE).Science-based degrees and midwifery degrees require a GCSE in English AND Maths.
The diploma covers three key subject disciplines:
- Healthcare (15 credits) – Principles of Care, Communication and Health Education & Society. (Subject to change)
- Psychology (15 credits) – Social Interaction, Developmental Psychology and Psychological Disorders.
- Biology (15 credits) – Communicable diseases, co-ordination, human circulation and gas exchange, nutrition and digestion and urinary systems.
Alongside the specialist subject disciplines, you will be supported to develop your study skills to ensure you are well equipped to complete your assessments and thrive in an HE environment.
The Access to HE diploma is a full level 3 qualification and will enable you to progress on to study a degree in nursing, health and wellbeing, midwifery, health and social care, counselling, human and health sciences.
