First year, University Centre Grimsby BA Design learner and National Art and Design Saturday Club (NADSC) Ambassador, Alex Tucker, recently returned from London where he worked as a tour guide at the prestigious New Designers show based at the Business Design Centre, London.
The show, which is held in Islington, is the UK’s most important event for emerging design and showcases the fresh thinking and innovation of 3,000 creative individuals.
Alex was nominated by Grimsby Institute, Specialist Coordinator and NADSC Coordinator Jo Shaw, and was one of only five lucky NADSC members who were selected to attend the event.
He spent three days giving tours to school children in the furniture, product design and illustration section of the exhibition. Alex commented: “I was so pleased I got selected. The event gave me a real insight into working as an artist in the furniture and product design industry. I got to talk to the designers and it was great to get their views and discuss what they have produced.”
Alex added, “When the groups initially arrived for the tour it was a little hard to engage with them but by the time they had completed their tour they were really interested and enthusiastic. “
