Frequently Asked Questions and Help

There are four Learning Centres providing lending, reference and information services to students and staff at the Grimsby Institute.
You can find some answers to your questions below.

I borrowed a short loan book but have lost my receipt. How can I check when it is due back and will I be able to renew it?

It is important that you look after your receipts, however you can still check when your items are due back on the Learning Centre Catalogue.
Select My Account and enter your student number.
You will then be able to see all the items that you have on loan and their due dates.

You are guaranteed to be able to keep this book for at least 1 week. After that you can try and renew it. However, if you have reached the renewal limit or someone has reserved it you will not be able to extend the loan and will need to return it on or before the due date.

I need to borrow a particular book for my course. The catalogue shows that all the copies are on loan. What can I do?

When all copies of an item are out on loan, it is possible to place a reservation yourself, via the Learning Centre Catalogue or by speaking to a member of Learning Centre staff.

I returned a book to the Library but it is still showing on my account. What should I do?

You need to go to the main counter in the Learning Centre to report this. Staff will check the Learning Centre shelves and ask that you check at home, work, any other place you may have been and check with friends and colleagues. You will be contacted if we find the book. If the book cannot be found you will be asked for the replacement cost.

I have lost a DVD that I borrowed from the Learning Centre. What should I do and can I buy a replacement copy of the DVD?

You need to contact the LCMR Technician in the Learning Centre to report the loss. We will let you know what the replacement cost for the DVD is and any other charges related to it. We are unable to accept bought copies to replace our copies..

How do I reset my password?

Speak to a member of the Learning Centre staff during our opening times and we can help you, alternatively go to the IT Helpdesk on the first floor of the main building at the Nuns Corner campus

What do I do if I have lost my Athens password?

If you can still remember your username and the email you used to create your account you can reset it yourself. Go to and click on Login then Forgotten Password. If you can't remember your username or password please contact the learning centres via here
