Seven talented Grimsby Institute students amazed delegates in an opening performance and dinner ceremony showcase for the Association of Colleges this year, on the 12th November 2024.
The Association of Colleges Annual Conference and Exhibition brings together distinguished speakers from the education, government, and business environments to analyse and advise on key topics within further education.
This prestigious invitation came as a result of a rigorous audition process. Our students were selected to perform out of nationwide competition from other colleges. With just 12 days to prepare, the students prepared and rehearsed for their performances, totalling 16 minutes of dance.
The seven performers all study Level 3 Performing Arts, and choreography was shaped by student Angel Woodhouse undertaking a Level 4 Foundation Degree in Performing Arts. Tutor Gemma Dodds guided the students in creating their dance showcase.
Speaking to Level 3 student Hannah Firth in rehearsals, she shared her thoughts about the quick turnaround from rehearsal to the stage:
“[Rehearsing for the conference] has been good as it prepares you for later on in life. You’re going to be doing something like this, and it’s a really big deal. It shows versatility and adaptability because we do it really fast and still go on stage and do it so well!”
Level 3 student Lucia Casal also expressed excitement for the opportunity ahead:
“It’ll be a good experience! I don’t think there are many opportunities we’ll have to do something like this. My college course and this performance have really helped me develop my skills in singing, acting, and dancing.”
Darren Banks, Head of Salon and Creative Arts, commented:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and the Grimsby Institute. To be selected out of countless further education providers to perform for this well-respected event hosted by the Association of Colleges is impressive. It speaks to the high calibre of talent we have in the region and our tutors’ ability to open doors into industry for students”.
