Photography
The Level 3 Photography course has been designed with industry to offer a practical programme where you will undertake creative projects tailored to your photographic interests. You will also have opportunities to network with clients within the photographic industry. The course is 100% coursework based, encouraging creative freedom and development of your personal creative visions. You will study many different aspects of photography on this course, including analogue practices (film) in our multi-grade darkroom, studio skills, industry practice involving live clients and a range of genres. Furthermore, you will explore avenues of presentation and digital printing, ultimately leading to your final year exhibition, previously held at venues such as Grimsby Minster and the Turntable Gallery. Over the two years you will have the opportunity to experiment with numerous genres such as fine art photography, natural history, fashion, documentary/photojournalism allowing you to explore and specialise in an area of your choice. You will also develop content with industry briefs set by live clients as well as being supported by several tutors’ specialists in their photographic area.Previous learners have progressed onto Formula-1 racing, creating freelance businesses, and national photographic agencies.

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process. Level 3 ProgrammesMinimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 (previously C) or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 2 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at level 2.
Work experience placements will be available with industry-leading partners. This involves discussing and understanding client briefs and working directly with customers whilst photographing or recording content for client consumption. Additionally, you will work alongside a skills and employability trainer to source work experience opportunities and prepare you for industry.
During your time on the photography course, you will have the opportunity to visit a host of exciting venues and exhibitions including a trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. There will also be a chance to hear from a variety of speakers from the creative media industry allowing you to gather first-hand knowledge of your future career path.
The course offers an exceptional standard of practical focused learning, using our traditional multi-grade darkroom for analogue photographic practice, which is matched by outstanding digital photographic equipment and studio for you to use daily.
