Crime and Social Studies

About This Course

This course will give you the knowledge on how society and the law work together. It will help you answer the question: Are you born a criminal? Why do people reoffend? Does rehabilitation work? What shapes us to be law abiding citizens? While gaining the analytical and evaluative skills needed to progress onto university, apprenticeship or employment. 

You will learn the relevant knowledge and skills required to apply key theories in criminology and sociology to real case studies of serial killers and world famous criminals that have shaped British history. Applying the law to case studies to help you understand how and why people are found guilty in a court of law and the skills required to work in the industry. You will also learn about our education system, class and employment system that shapes your life. 

Subject and industry specialists are on hand to help you progress and succeed every step of the way. You will also have guest speakers, work experience, local, national and international trips including to the local police station and firms. Internally, you will have access to a law library, mock trials and being able to take part in our unique law clinic advising the public with the help of qualified lawyers and guest university professors.

  • A level Sociology

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE grades 4-9 including Maths and English.

If you have just missed on on Maths or English, a programme of Sociology, Criminology and 1 GCSE is available.

Work Experience

Our Skills and Employability Trainer will support you to find relevant work experience in your chosen field to compliment your studies.
