Higher Education Placement Student Checklist

Our Higher Education student checklist will help you get everything in order for placements.

Student Checklist

Student to attend the HE Placement Desk at Enrolment with completed:

  1. Fitness to Practice Form
  2. DBS Form and £44.00 (needs to be taken over to Enrolment Desk / bring in copy of current DBS form if placement is with employers).
  3. Order Uniform
  4. Inform the HE Placement Team if a placement has been secured.

Placement Guide (Employed)

  • At enrolment notify the HE Placement Team of placement, providing a copy of your DBS
  • Complete a HE Placement Request Form at enrolment
  • Once this has been completed the HE Placement Team will ensure that a current Health and Safety Assessment is in place.
  • Placement hours cannot be counted until your DBS has been seen by the HE Placement Team and a Health and Safety audit has been completed.
  • You need to ensure that you have a mentor assigned to you, this is someone who is available for meetings to discuss your Learning Objectives.
  • Discuss Learning Outcomes with Tutor and Mentor.
  • Enrol on the HE Placement Canvas page
  • You must arrange a 1st visit with the HE Placement Team. This is a meeting which your mentor needs to be available for.
  • For the 1st visit, you must ensure that the handbook has been completed as far as possible. Including first mentor meeting.
  • You will receive a second visit on the second year of your study.
  • If your placement changes, you need to make the HE Placement Team aware and a further visit will need to be carried out at your new placement.

Placement Guide (Voluntary)

  • At enrolment notify the HE Placement Team of any placement opportunities you have secured or if you are still looking for a placement.
  • Complete a HE Placement Request Form at enrolment if you have secured a placement
  • Once this has been completed the HE Placement team will ensure that there is a current Health and Safety Assessment is in place.
  • Placement hours cannot be counted until your DBS has been seen by the HE Placement Team and a Health and Safety audit has been completed.
  • You need to ensure that you have a mentor assigned to you, this is someone who is available for meetings to discuss your Learning Objectives.

If you have not secured a placement:

  • Enrol on the HE Placement Canvas to view job descriptions and details of placement opportunities.
  • Apply for your DBS in readiness for starting placement. If you have no DBS in placement, this may result in a delay. When you have received your DBS the HE Placement Team need to see the original document.
  • Find out and research any organisations you may wish to apply for
  • Make contact with organisations/ complete application forms
  • You need to aim to be in a placement by November/December.
  • If you are having difficulty in securing a placement, contact the HE Placement Team
  • Once you have secured a placement, you need to complete the HE Placement Request Form (on the HE Placement Canvas page) and hand into HE Placement Team.
  • Once this is received the HE Placement team will ensure that there is a current Health and Safety Check in place.
