About This Course

This programme allows you to specialise in software solutions and will prepare you for a future career in technology.

The BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions (Software) Top Up degree will consider the understanding that the IT industry is one that develops at a rapid pace, with yearly innovations applied across a range of sectors. You will undertake future-proof modules that will develop and hone your skills, placing not a focus not just upon developing existing knowledge, but conducting research into current innovations, and potential future innovations.

You will have to opportunity to utilise the new purpose-built Institute of Technology computer suites, featuring powerful Alienware workstations. You will also be given use of the additional hardware and peripherals the department has, such as the Augmented and Virtual Reality equipment (Vive, Oculus, Rift, HoloLens).

Entry Requirements

The successful applicant must hold 240 Credits from the first two years of study on a Foundation Degree programme or equivalent. The programme is open to applicants who have successfully completed a Foundation Degree programme relating to Information Technologies or Computer Science. Each applicant will be assessed on an individual basis, through the application, interview and audition process.

Learning & Teaching Methods

A diverse range of assessment methods on this programme include focusing upon the design and practical application of IT skills, including practical projects, case studies, evaluations, planning and design documentation and technical reports.

This Institute of Technology BSc programme offers brand new state of the art IT suites, featuring powerful Alienware workstations, and workspaces tailored for practical development of IT solutionsStudents will have the ability to explore programming, data and networking technologies using new, industry relevant software and hardware, and will have the benefit of working with employability tutors to gain work-related skills and seek out employment opportunitiesStudents also have the ability to undertake this programme part time, completing 60 credits per year, allowing for great flexibility to those students that may be in full time employment or otherwise unable to attend a full time BSc programme.

Upon completion of this programme, students will be able to undertake the following:

  • A masters degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
  • Continue to develop skills through the completion of professional certification programmes offered by companies such as CISCO, Microsoft or Adobe.
  • Enter the IT industry in a variety of junior roles relating to the skills taught within this programme.
