The Pre-Service programme is suitable for those wanting to pursue a career in teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector; that is teaching students age 14 years and above. The programme is full-time and suitable for those who are not currently teaching.
This is a one year course.
The minimum qualification you need to gain entry to the course is at Level 3 in the subject(s) that you intend to teach. Applicants must have GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or Level 2 equivalent) before attending for interview. Those wishing to enter the Professional or Postgraduate Certificate in Education routes must hold a UK bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
You will need to demonstrate 5 days teaching experience in the classroom prior to interview.
All applicants will need a work placement to gain the required 100 hours practical teaching experience; the course team will endeavour to find an appropriate placement for applicants subject to availability, an interview and two appropriate references. Applicants should also aim to complete a minimum of 5 days experience shadowing in an appropriate setting. A clean enhanced DBS check is also required.
One day per week structured seminars and lectures from your PGCE tutors and specialist guest lecturers. Lessons will also include on-line learning, work placements, peer assessment, presentations, poster presentation and a year end conference.
You will also do 100 teaching during the duration of the course in your own classroom setting with the support of a subject specialist Mentor.
