This course is a combination of theory and practical, with all sorts of interesting equipment for you to get your hands on.
The first year includes modules in multi-skilled engineering, teaching a variety of skills which help you and your tutors decide whether electrical or mechanical engineering would suit you best.
Your subjects will typically include engineering, maths, science, machining, fitting and maintenance.
Work placements will be arranged to get a taste of what it’s like to work in engineering. You can speak to people already in the trade and ask them for any tips and advice.

Work experience is a mandatory element of this programme. Learners will work in live engineering environments such as being a fitter in a factory, a machinist in a machine shop or electrical technician in an industrial environment.
A variety of helpful trips will be made available to you during your time on this course, including, RAF Coningsby, Drax Power Plant, Birmingham NEC, Pegler, Princess of Wales Hospital and Trent Valley Gliding Centre.
