Motivational event aims to inspire veterans' return to education
LOCAL veterans are invited to join us at the Grimsby Institute next month for an evening with motivational speaker Guy Batchelor.
The free event, which will see Guy chart his transition from military to civilian life, aims to connect with veterans returning to education and taking steps towards a new career.
From operations in Afghanistan to night raids in Baghdad, Guy will draw on his diverse 26-year military career to illustrate his journey, using transferable business skills.
The speaker will also use his hard-won experience, as well as practical examples and anecdotes, to discuss the virtues of leadership, planning, communication and people skills.
Grimsby Institute Vice Principal Claire Foster said: “The Grimsby Institute is extremely proud of its reputation for providing high quality higher education for students who might not ordinarily consider degree level study.
“The support we provide to ensure that our doors are open to students from all backgrounds is exceptional.
“We are very much looking forward to what promises to be an informative and inspiration evening with Guy Batchelor and believe it to be an honour to extend the warmest of welcomes at the event to veterans who have given such important service to their country and who may be considering the next steps in their life.”
Serving in high tempo and specialised roles, Guy has undertaken everything from military selection processes to individual endurance events.
These include successful solo swimming experiences of the English Channel and circumnavigation of Manhattan Island, which he believes prove mindset and work ethos triumph over natural talent.
Since leaving the military, Guy has run a consultancy specialising in high net worth asset protection and risk mitigation solutions.
His work with big brands and household sporting names, providing bespoke services, has given him unique insight into the importance of organisational reputation and discretion.
Education for Veterans will take place on March 22, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm, at University Centre Grimsby.
It is free to attend, however interested parties are asked to register their interest by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org
