HND Sports and Exercise Sciences is designed to teach the knowledge and skills required for working within the sport and exercise industry locally and nationally. The HND Sport and Exercise Sciences builds on learning achieved on the HNC and provides you with the opportunity to develop and apply the knowledge, understanding and skills underpinning a range of sport science disciplines (such as training and fitness; sports physiology and psychology; coaching and sports performance), whilst also developing your research, personal and professional skills. HND Sport and Exercise Sciences is suitable for those currently employed within the industry wishing to work towards gaining an academic qualification or for those wishing to embark on a career in the area. Participating in this course gives opportunity to use industry standard equipment and facilities within theInstitute's purpose built Sports Centre which includes a double sports hall, fitness suite and Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).
Applicants to the HND must hold a HNC Sport and Exercise Science. Students are also required to hold English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or above.
Applicants with extensive work experience and/or professional qualifications in a related industry are welcome to apply. Applicants will need to attend an interview and may be required to complete a short assessment as part of the entry process.
After successful completion of the HND and with the necessary grades and modules studied; students may be able to progress onto an honours degree in Sport and Exercise Studies/Science at a number of universities.For those seeking employment, this qualification will enhance graduates' opportunities in pursuing careers in the sports industry, exercise, health or fitness, as well as possible more specialised routes in health promotion, coaching, sports therapy and sports teaching/lecturing.

Methods of learning and teaching are designed to support students in becoming active members of a learning community. Students will be expected to work together in an informal environment as well as in formal classes where a culture of dignity, courtesy and mutual respect with staff and their peers is essential. A variety of methods will be used such as lectures, seminars and practical sessions. Integrating a work-based or placement opportunity, students will be visited in the workplace by a member of Institute staff to ensure a positive partnership between the employer mentor and to monitor that learning in the workplace is effective. Workplace learning is designed to support the development of an employable graduate equipped with the attributes, skills and knowledge to progress within a global market.
