Uniformed Public Services

Teamwork, fitness and leadership form the foundation of the course where you will take part in fitness sessions, adventure activities, drills and exercises to prepare you for life in some of the most physically demanding and vital job roles there are.

Work experience opportunities include placements in local youth organisations, school and events with the RAF, Royal Marines and the Army. Various marshalling opportunities at local events such as the annual charity Nightwalk are also available.

Trips on the course have included Look at Life events across all uniformed services, Peaks Lane Fire Station, regular outdoor education sessions to the Wolds and Peak District, Rock City, mountain biking and regional prison visits to look at the role of Prison Wardens. Sam is now training for the Royal Marines after originally applying to join at 16 only to be told, due to medical conditions, he would have to wait a year. Sam explained: “I wanted to do something that would stand me in good stead for the Marines whilst gaining qualifications at the same time so enrolled at the Grimsby Institute.

“The wealth of experience the tutors have has helped me so much. The things they teach you mean that you go into your service better prepared for the task. The tutors were great at teaching us skills we would need for our future careers.”
