Media Make-up

If you have a keen interest in the entertainment industry, but see yourself in a backstage role, our Media Make-up course could be just what you’re looking for. Preparing performers and models for, shoots, stage and TV is more than just applying make-up, you will need to be skilled in applying looks that translate well on screen and stage and stand up against harsh lighting, and now more than ever, look impeccable on HD TV and increasingly advanced photographic equipment.

You will learn the art of lash and brow treatments, body art design, photographic make-up and tanning techniques. You will also study anatomy and physiology and hairstyling. If you chose to progress onto Level 3 you will also learn about Special Effects Make-up and Prosthetics. Work experience will play a key role in the course and could include placements on fashion shoots and theatre productions.

In addition to the programme of study there will be guest speakers from the industry and trips to the Professional Hair and Beauty Show.

Ellis Sharpe
Ellis Sharpe
Ellis, a former pupil at the Lindsey School in Cleethorpes, took part in the Level 3 Hair & Media Make-up Competition during her training, coming an overall 2nd Place with her dramatic crow-like creation. Ellis said: “We were asked to create an animalistic character with a fantasy element, so I decided to produce a crow or raven and make it look a bit gothic. The competition is great because it gives you an idea of what you can do and what you need to do to succeed.”

Ellis’s success has seen her enrol at the University Centre Grimsby for the BA Special Effects Make-up for TV, Theatre and Film degree programme and she hopes to become a Special Effects Make-up Artist when she graduates.
