A career in childcare will open the door to a world of possibilities. This hugely important vocation could see you play a part in creating the foundations of a child’s behaviour, education and aspirations. If you have a natural affinity with children and want to develop that into a career then our childcare course will equip with all the practical skills required to progress in to a job.

You will study child development and communication as well as working with children in a variety of roles. The course will cover child health, playing and learning, safeguarding, craft activities and supporting children learning literacy and numeracy in the early stages.

Work experience plays a huge part on this course with placements available in nurseries and schools, all of which will enhance your learning experience and build your confidence, readying you for the workplace.

What Next?

UCAS points are available upon completion of this course and you don’t have to travel far to further your studies. You could study for a foundation degree at the University Centre Grimsby in Early Childhood Studies, or if you are thinking of studying further a field there are also plenty of choices at universities across the UK.

Alternatively you might want to get straight into the workplace? Why not consider one of our Apprenticeship pathways in Childcare, visit the website for more details.

Lauren Brewitt
Lauren Brewitt
Twenty-year-old, Lauren Brewitt, is now a Level 3 Teaching Assistant after training as an Apprentice for her Level 2 & 3 qualifications with the Grimsby Institute.

Lauren said: “I’d always wanted to work with children with disabilities. I used to go to Yarborough Academy when I was a child myself and while I was training in Childcare at the Grimsby Institute I volunteered at the school to see if I enjoyed it.
“I really enjoyed it and then I got introduced to the idea of doing an Apprenticeship. I was an Apprentice for three years and I really enjoyed it. I love coming to work and it so rewarding. I have my own groups now and it’s great to see them progressing. I think I’d like to work with children with Autism but I want to go to University and then decide which way to specialise.”
