Animal Care courses at the Grimsby Institute

Animal Care

Our Animal Care course will equip you with the skills to progress your career in areas such Veterinary Nursing, Kennel and Cattery, Animal Welfare and Dog Grooming.

While on the course you’ll go out into real work environments including animal sanctuaries, pet shops, grooming parlours, animal charities and veterinary practices.

Previous course trips have included; Crufts, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, The Deep, Lincolnshire Show and Flamingo Land. You’ll hear from guest speakers from across the industry and specialist areas such as Exotics specialists and Veterinary professionals who will share their wealth of experience and knowledge with you.

This hands on course will give you the chance to get up close and personal with a wide variety of animals where you’ll learn how to care for them from animal health, nursing, kennel management, welfare and biology, feeding and accommodation.

Programmes of Study at Foundation Level are available for learners who aren't quite ready to undertake a subject specific course. These programme aim to support learners to develop personal and social development skills that will help progression to Further Education or training.
The programmes are tailored within specific curriculum areas where learners will be supported through the opportunity to cover a variety of topics within that subject and develop holistic skills in personal thinking, problem solving, working with others and communication.

Learners will follow a vocational studies programme at Entry Level 3 or Level 1, that includes Maths and English and taking part in work-related activities. Every learner is assigned a Progression Mentor who will support and guide them within the programme.

Progression routes would be to Level 1 or 2 within a subject-basedCurriculum Area.
